Periodontology
The periodontal disease is an inflammatory affection of the gum that surrounds the tooth, and that finally ends up affecting the bone that holds it.
There are several grades of the disease. When it affects only the gum we speak of gingivitis and if it progresses and affects the bone we speak of periodontitis. In case of not being treated, the periodontitis bears the loss of the bone that holds the tooth. And, therefore, in the most advanced phase, the loss of the tooth itself.
